Book Review: "Gunahon Ka Devta"

I don't know how to start writing a review on this great creation of Dharmveer Bharti. The whole book is centralized around its main character Chandar. The story presents the influence of people of different mindset on Chandar. His surroundings are influenced by three important ladies, Sudha, Binti & Pummi. The whole satire is created near around Prayag (Allahabad). The central idea of the novel deals with the two feelings of Love, one, sacrificial love and another, bodily (sexual desire) love. Vivekananda said, "Never expect anything from your love, and never try to bind your love with expectations". It is said that If u posses something, you do not know its importance until it is lost. These ideas are morale of the story.
Chandar is considered to be angel, because of his impressive intellect, the sacrifices he did for his love. However it resulted in unhappiness on both sides but still his maturity makes his impression as a God. Consequently Sudha and Chandar both deteriorate in their ideals. Sudha does every thing what Chandar wanted her to do. She never tried to make Chandar unhappy. But these sacrifices by both, Sudha & Chandar, weaken them. Binti respects Chandar and his ideals; she is always ready to sacrifice every thing to keep Chandar happy. Pummi attracts holy soul of Chandar and fulfill the bodily desire in him. Sometimes Chandar is lost in the statements of Burti and Pummi. His thoughts about sexual desire changes because of them. Among highly literate people like Dr. Shukla, Bisaria; his impressive intellect makes him ideal.
Before marriage Sudha was quite kiddy. She always used to quarrel with Chandar but never denied any thing what he wanted her to do. Even she married to other guy, Kailash. After marriage Sudha worships her lord Chandar. Her health deteriorates but her morale strengthens. She considers sacrifice in her love the best thing she did to make her love happy. But Chandar keeps on being influenced, keeps on changing his morale. Her words " Main apni durbalta ka prayaschit kar rahi hoon. Ek din humlogon ne nischay kiya tha hamare pyar ki kasauti yehrahegi ki hum duur rah kar bhi unche uthenge, pavitra rahenge. Duur ho jane k baad tumhara pyar toh mujhme ek dridh aatma aur vishwas bharta raha, usi k sahare main apne jeevan k toofanon ko paar le gayi; lekin pata nahi mere pyar me koun si durbalta rahi ki tum use grahan nahi kar sake, tumhara vyaktitva dusit ho gaya ", shows the changes came in the ideals of Chandar and Sudha.
The key character of the story Chandar is such kind of person who always tries to strengthen himself by the influence of his surrounding but it always results in weakening him. His boat is in the midway to the banks of faith and unfaith. When he turns towards faith everything adds to strengthen him, but some influences turn the table and he becomes weak. This is the reality in everyone's life. This is the morale of the story that one should always live practically, think practically. The words of Burti " Aadmi tab tak mahan hota hai, uncha uthata hai, jab tak wo nisedh karta chalta hai" conveys that everything happening should be related practically.
